Mother, how can I live without the One I love?
Away from my Beloved, I feel empty, like the light has gone out of the house.
The One you love is what makes you feel alive inside.
Love is what makes us feel alive.
This is the rahau, the pause-line that carries the whole shabad. Bichhurat means being separated, and the ache of it is spoken to a mother, the way you confide in someone who will understand. Without the Beloved, a person feels lifeless, like a house with the light gone out. Saarang is a raag of yearning, and this is its keynote.
A Question to Sit With
When have you missed someone so much that everything felt different until they came back?
