In plain words

The One's people long for the Naam, the way you long to see someone you have missed for a long time.

In all they think, say and do, they wish for one kind of peace: to see the One with their own eyes. When will that day come?

The whole self can lean toward one thing: to see the One.
The deeper layer

Longing to see the One fills the whole self.

Kaankhee means yearning. This is the "pause" line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad. It is a whole-self longing: thought, word, and action all leaning toward one thing. The wish is to see the One with your own eyes, darshan.

Think of waiting at the window for someone you love who has been away on a long trip. Every car that passes makes your heart jump. That longing is not empty. It is love reaching out.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you long for so much that your whole self leans toward it?
