In plain words

O Master, Your servant has come to You with a prayer.

Hearing Your Naam, I find every peace and joy, an easy calm and a sweetness I did not have to chase.

Deep listening for the One brings a peace you do not have to chase.
The deeper layer

I come to You with a humble prayer, and hearing Your Name fills me with peace.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Thaakur means Master, but a Master held close, not far away. The servant aa-i-o, comes, carrying a bintee, a humble prayer.

Sunat tuhaaro naa-i-o — hearing Your Name. This is what Japji calls Suniai, deep listening. It is more than hearing a sound. It means growing still enough for good things to arrive: peace, joy, and sahj, an easy, steady calm. Think of a pond on a windless morning. When the water is still, you can see all the way down.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you get quiet enough to listen, instead of just waiting to talk?
