You are the All-powerful Cause of causes. You have ended my separation, and joined me with God. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Kind saints, lift me up and carry me across.

You are all-powerful, the cause behind every cause. What was broken, You alone have joined again.

When something in you comes apart, the One is already the hands that tie it whole again.
The deeper layer

When our link to the One feels broken, the One is the one who ties it back together.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Karahu gat means "carry me across, lift me free." Santahu means "O holy ones," speaking to the saints.

Kaaran karnaa names the One as the cause behind every cause. The One is the power moving inside everything that happens.

Tootee tum hee joree — the thread that snapped, You alone joined again. Think of a friendship bracelet that broke. Someone who loves you knots it back together, and it holds. That is the picture: a connection to the One that felt broken, now made whole.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel broken or stuck, who do you let help you — and what makes it hard to ask?
