Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
With my own eyes I have seen the wonder of it all.
The One is farther away than the farthest thing, and yet closer than anything close — impossible to reach across the sky, and living quietly right inside my own heart.
The One is farther than the farthest star, and closer than your own heartbeat.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.
Guru Arjan says he has seen the wonders of the One with his own eyes. Then he gives a puzzle. "Sabh hoo door sabh hoo tay nayrai" means far from everything, and near to everything.
Agam means out of reach. You cannot get to the One by traveling. Yet the One is ghat vaasaa, living in the heart.
Think of looking all over for your friend in a crowd, while they are standing right behind you. The One was never anywhere else.
Can something be far away and close at the same time? Where in your life does that feel true?
