The Word which the Perfect Guru has spoken, I have tied to my robe. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Mother, the One is true, true, true, and the One's holy people are true, true, true.

The word the Perfect Guru spoke, I have tied into the corner of my robe.

Keep what is true tied close, and carry it everywhere you go.
The deeper layer

The threefold "True, True, True" hammers home sach — the most real thing, the one that endures when everything else washes off. Tying the Word into the knot of one's robe is the image of keeping a teaching so close it goes wherever you go. The rahau frames the whole shabad: what is real lasts; everything else passes.

A Question to Sit With

What is a piece of wisdom you would want to keep with you always?
