Verse 2 of 3

The One in Everything I See

ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਊਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥
agah agaaDh ooch abhinaasee keemat jaat na kahee.
He is Unfathomable, Incomprehensible, Exalted and High, Eternal and Imperishable; His worth cannot be appraised.
jal thal paykh paykh man bigsi-o poor rahi-o sarab mahee. ||1||
Gazing upon Him, gazing upon Him in the water and on the land, my mind has blossomed forth in ecstasy. He is totally pervading and permeating all. ||1||

In plain words

The One is deeper than I can measure and higher than I can reach, and there is no price you could ever put on it.

But when I look, and keep on looking, I start to see it everywhere, in the water and on the land, and my heart blossoms wide open. It fills every single thing.

Look closely enough and you find the One filling everything.
The deeper layer

The One is too big to measure, yet can be seen everywhere.

Agah agaadh ooch abhinaasee means deep past knowing, high, and undying. Keemat jaat na kahee means no one can put a price on the One.

Then the verse turns. Jal thal pekh pekh means looking and looking, at the water and the land. The more the singer looks, the more the One appears in everything. The mind bigsi-o, blossoms. That opening of the heart is like a flower opening in the sun.

Think of looking at the night sky from a dark field. At first you see a few stars. As your eyes adjust, you see thousands. This is Ik Onkar, "One Creator," made visible. The One is not far away. The One fills every form.

A Question to Sit With

Where in the world around you do you feel a sense of wonder, or something larger than yourself?
