In plain words

When you listen to the Naam, a clean, steady strength grows in you, and the old fears about ending lose their power to frighten you. Listen, and a light switches on inside your heart, and the darkness there simply clears.

Deep listening helps you understand your own self, and that understanding is the profit of a life. Old mistakes fall away, and you come face to face with what is pure and true. Nanak says: listen like this, and your face shines. Face the Guru and hold the Naam close.

Listening to the Naam turns on a light inside that clears away fear and confusion.
The deeper layer

Pauri 8, Suniai sequence. The messenger of death does not come near (jam nayrh na aavai): the fear of ending loses its grip. The heart is illumined (ghat chaannaa), self-knowledge is the true profit (aap bujhee-ai, laahaa), old mistakes fall away (paap katee-ah), and the face grows radiant (mukh ujlay). Deep listening leads to fearlessness and self-understanding.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing about yourself you understand better now than you used to?
