Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When you take the Naam into your heart and live from it, the goodness spreads far beyond you. It reaches the people you came from and the whole family around you. It reaches the Sangat too, everyone who keeps the Naam in their heart. Those who hear it are carried across with you.
Let your tongue delight in it and your attention rest on it, and pain and the endless hunger for more begin to fade. Nanak says: the ones who praise the Naam are the ones who meet the Guru.
Living from the Naam lifts everyone around you.
Pauri 10 of the Vaar continues the sequence on living from the Name (naa-ay mani-ai — accepting and living from it). The goodness spreads outward to one's ancestors and family (kul, kutamb) and to the sangat — the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One. Dukh bhukh, pain and hunger, fade when the attention rests on the Name.
When you feel calm and kind inside, how do the people around you feel it too?
