The Naam of the pure One cannot be pinned down or measured — so how could anyone ever "know" it? And yet it is closer than close, right here with you the whole time. So how do you find something that is already here?
It is spread through everything and every place, never absent for a moment. You find it through the perfect Guru, who shows it to you right inside your own heart. Nanak says that when the One looks on you with kindness, you meet the Guru — a gift, given freely.
The Naam is beyond knowing, and it is right here with you.
Naam niranjan alakh hai — the pure Naam cannot be seen or measured. Naam niranjan naal hai — and it is with you all the time. Vartadaa ravi-aa sabh thaa-ee — it fills every place. Gur pooray tay paa-ee-ai — through the perfect Guru it is found, and the Guru shows it inside the heart. Nadree karam — the One's kind glance, a grace that opens you up.
