In plain words

It is easy to slip into feeling that the world is split in two — you over here, everything else over there — and to start chasing that feeling of separateness. From there it is a short step to little lies and pretending, saying things that are not quite true.

Even love can turn heavy when we cling to people as if they were ours to keep, gripping so tightly that the holding itself begins to ache. A life spent forgetting the One behind everything slips away unused. Nanak loves the One. Turn toward that One, and your heart finds its home again.

Clinging too tightly to what you love can quietly turn love into ache; turning toward the One brings you home.
The deeper layer

Pauri 3. Duality (doojaa bharam), falsehood and deception (koorh kapat), and clinging attachment to family that turns to dukh. A life spent this way goes round and round and slips away unused. The close, naanak har bhaa-i-aa, turns the other way: Nanak loves the One, and turning toward the One is coming home.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something or someone you are holding so tightly that the holding has started to hurt?
