In plain words

It was like a lamp flaring up in a deep, dark place — the Guru lit a light right inside my heart.

Nanak says, seeing the One, I found peace, and every hope I had came true.

You do not have to fight the dark — you just have to let one lamp be lit inside.
The deeper layer

You do not fight the dark. You light a lamp.

Andh koop means a deep, dark well. It stands for the confusion we can get lost in.

The picture here is not a punishment. It is one small lamp. "Deepak bali-o" means a lamp was lit. The Guru lit it in the ridai, the heart.

Think of a dark bedroom at night. You do not need to push the dark out. You just turn on the lamp, and the dark is gone.

Once there is light, peace comes. And "pooran ho-ee aasaa" means every hope is met.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that feels like a lamp for you when things get confusing or dark?
