He has poured the medicine of the Naam, the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, into my mouth; I have fallen at the Guru's Feet. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I was caught spinning in a whirlpool, going under, the One reached in, took my side, and lifted me out.

Then, like medicine placed gently in my mouth, I was given the Naam, and something in me began to heal. I went and fell at the Guru's feet.

When you are pulled under, the Name is the medicine that heals and lifts.
The deeper layer

Bikh ghayrai is the whirlpool that pulls a person down; amrit naam a-ukhadh is the healing nectar of the Name given as medicine. Guru Arjan frames the ego and its cravings not as sins to be punished but as an illness to be cured — and the cure is the Name held in awareness.

A Question to Sit With

When has something felt like medicine for your heart — quietly making you well again?
