In the second step, the One leads me to meet the Teacher. The heart fills with awe — a clean, bright wonder. Smaller fears simply fall away, and the stain of ego goes with them.
In that wonder I sing. I begin to see the One right here, present before me, filling everything, inside and out, with nothing left over.
There is only the One everywhere I look. Together with others who love the One, the heart sings for joy. A soundless music you feel more than hear begins to play.
In the second round, awe clears away fear and ego.
Har doojrhee laav — the second round. Here the One brings us to meet the True Guru. Then: nirbha-o bhai man ho-ay — through bhai, awe of the Fearless One, the mind becomes fearless. This is not being scared of the One. It is a wonder so big that smaller fears fall away. The verse calls it nirmal bha-o, a clean, pure awe. The dirt of ego washes off too.
Think of standing under a huge night sky full of stars. You feel small, but not afraid. Your worries just seem to shrink. In that awe the poet sings, and sees the One right here: har vaykhai raam hadooray. Hadoor means present, close by. The One fills everything, inside and out. The round ends with songs of joy and anhad sabad — a music inside that plays without anyone striking a note.
When has a feeling of wonder made something you were afraid of feel small?
