In plain words

The True One built the body like a fortress.

Some get lost in loving two things at once, caught up in ego (haumai — the feeling of being a separate self).

This human life is so hard to come by, yet those who follow only their own mind suffer in pain.

Only the one the One helps to understand comes to understand; the True Guru has blessed that person.

The One made the whole world as a play, and moves through all of it.

Being human at all is a rare and precious gift.
The deeper layer

kaa-i-aa kot = the body as a fortress. ih maanas janam dulambh = this human life is rare and hard to come by, a core Gurbani teaching on what this life is worth. manmukh = one who follows only their own mind. sabh jag khayl = the world as play, with the One vartai aapay, moving through all.

A Question to Sit With

What is something about being alive today that you usually take for granted?
