pa-orhee.
Pauree:
har har naam salaahee-ai sach kaar kamaavai.
Praise the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and practice truthful deeds.
doojee kaarai lagi-aa fir jonee paavai.
Attached to other deeds, one is consigned to wander in reincarnation.
naam rati-aa naam paa-ee-ai naamay gun gaavai.
Attuned to the Name, one obtains the Name, and through the Name, sings the Lord's Praises.
gur kai sabad salaahee-ai har naam samaavai.
Praising the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he merges in the Lord's Name.
satgur sayvaa safal hai sayvi-ai fal paavai. ||19||
Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding; serving Him, the fruits are obtained. ||19||

In plain words

Praise the Name, and let your actions be honest and real — that is work that pays off. Pour yourself into empty busywork instead, and you just end up going in circles.

But the more you tune to the Name, the more it becomes yours, until your whole self is singing it. Serving the teaching is never wasted — it always bears fruit.

Honest work rooted in the Name always bears fruit; busywork just circles.
The deeper layer

sach kaar kamaavai = doing true, real deeds. doojee kaarai lagi-aa fir jonee paavai = investing in the false leads to wandering, rendered as going in circles. naam rati-aa naam paa-ee-ai = attunement to the Name yields the Name. satgur sayvaa safal = serving the teaching is fruitful.

A Question to Sit With

What's the difference between being busy and doing something that truly matters?
