Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
This treasure is fearless and steady, true forever. Fire cannot burn it, water cannot wash it away, and no thief can carry it off.
Nothing can reach it to take it, not loss, not even death itself. Once it is yours inside, it is yours for good.
This treasure is safe from everything that takes other things away.
Har Dhan nirbha-o sadaa sadaa asthir — the One's wealth is fearless and steady forever. Nirbha-o means without fear. Asthir means it never moves.
Then the verse lists what can't touch it: fire, water, thieves, even the jamdoot, the messenger of death. It says death, like a tax collector, can't tax it. Think of your phone, your toys, your money. Any of them can get lost, broken or stolen. The love and goodness you carry inside can't. The list is not meant to scare us. It is meant to comfort us: this treasure is simply beyond loss.
What would it feel like to own something that could never be lost?
