In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Picture an actor in a play, putting on costume after costume — a king, a farmer, a child, an old traveler. The whole stage fills up with different characters.

But when the play ends, the actor peels off every costume, and there is just one person again. All the many shapes of the world are like that: one reality, wearing countless costumes.

The many shapes of the world are one reality wearing many costumes.
The deeper layer

baajeegar jaisay baajee paa-ee — the actor stages the play; saa~ng utaar — he takes off the disguise, and tab ayko aykankaaraa, then there is only the One Formless One. Creation as divine theatre is a favorite Gurbani image: difference is real on the stage, but not the final truth.

A Question to Sit With

When have you seen the same thing show up looking completely different?
