Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My body, my mind, everything belongs to the One. Yet a mind turned the wrong way can't even say so.
When the One wills it, a person becomes clean, and pride leaves from inside.
I have gently tasted the Guru's teaching, and the fire of my wanting has cooled.
Soaked in the Guru's word, I am quietly glad, and I melt softly into the One.
Everything we have is a gift from the One, and remembering that loosens our grip.
Tan man sabh kichh har tis kayraa — body, mind, everything belongs to the One. Yet durmat, a mind turned the wrong way, can't even say so. Think of a kid shouting "Mine!" about a bike that a grandparent gave them. The bike is a gift. Remembering that softens the tight little fist of "mine, mine."
Hukam hovai taa nirmal hovai — when it is the Hukam, the One's will, the flow of how things happen, a person becomes nirmal, clean. Then ego leaves from inside.
Gur kee saakhee sehjay chaakhee, trisnaa agan bujhaa-ay — gently tasting the Guru's teaching, the fire of trisnaa, endless wanting, goes out. Sehjay maataa — the heart becomes quietly glad and content, and merges softly into the One.
What is something you call yours that was actually given to you?
