Raag Sorath
Commentary

Raag Sorath, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

Peace now, joy ahead, and the same One woven through everything.

The Arc

Pauri 0: peace here and joy ahead, both given; the arrangement is steady, so the heart no longer wavers. Rahau (Pauri 1): the mind comes into accord with the True One (mannai, inner alignment), and knows that One pervading all. Pauri 2: all beings belong to the One, who cherishes them; wondrous is that greatness, so one keeps the Name close.

Key Vocabulary

  • banat banaaee: the arrangement made
  • dolat kathoo naahee: no wavering anywhere
  • man maaniaa: the mind in accord (mannai)
  • sarab nirantar: pervading all without a gap

Themes and Cross-Connections

Mannai as inner alignment, not mere belief, anchors the Rahau. The pauri joins that alignment to the vision of Oneness woven through everything, a recurring Sorath note of grounded trust.
