The Lord and Master removes suffering in this way - why have you forgotten Him? ||1||

In plain words

There's a story of a young seeker who, by holding the One close, grew steady and unafraid.

The One lifts away our fears just like that — so why let It slip from mind?

Holding the One close makes fear grow small.
The deeper layer

This verse remembers a child who held the One close and became steady and unafraid.

The child is Dhroo, a young boy in an old story. Atal bhaio dhroo-a jaa kai simran: by simran, remembering the One, Dhroo became atal, steady and lasting. Nirbhai pad paaiaa: he reached a place where fear could not reach him.

Think of a small child walking into a new school holding a parent's hand. The hallway is just as big, but the fear shrinks. Remembering the One works like that hand.

The One is called dukh hartaa, the one who takes away pain. So the Guru asks his own mind a gentle question: with a Friend like this, why would you ever forget?

A Question to Sit With

What is a fear that feels smaller when you remember you're not alone?
