O Dear Lord, this is Your Glory.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bhagtaa no jam johi na saakai kaal na nayrhai jaa-ee.
The Messenger of Death cannot touch Your devotees; death cannot even approach them.
ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
kayval raam naam man vasi-aa naamay hee mukat paa-ee.
The Name of the Lord alone abides in their minds; through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they find liberation.

riDh siDh sabh bhagtaa charnee laagee gur kai sahj subhaa-ee. ||2||
Wealth and all the spiritual powers of the Siddhis fall at the feet of the Lord's devotees; they obtain peace and poise from the Guru. ||2||

In plain words

This is Your quiet glory: You keep safe the honor of the ones who love You, the ones who make their home in You.

They live so held by You that even the fear of death loses its grip, they rest beyond it, calm and unafraid.

The Name is all they need in their hearts, and through it they feel truly free. Even wealth and special powers lose their pull, and a deep, natural peace settles in.

Held by the One, even the fear of death loses its grip.
The deeper layer

This verse says it is the One's greatness to keep safe the honor of those who come to It.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Ayh tayree vadiaa-ee: this is Your glory. You keep the honor of the people who make their home in You.

The verse then says jam, the messenger of death, cannot touch them, and kaal, time and death, cannot come near. Put simply, the fear of death loses its grip on them. They are calm, not frightened.

Kayval raam naam man vasi-aa: only the Name lives in their minds, and through the Name they become free. Even ridh sidh, riches and special powers, bow at their feet. Those things lose their pull.

Think of a kid who feels truly loved at home. Shiny toys and showing off matter less to them. What they have is already enough. From the Guru comes sahaj: an easy, natural peace.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel calm when you think about scary big things?
