In plain words

O Beloved, please bring me to the True Friend — the one who can show me the path I have been looking for.

Whoever points me toward that path, I would give anything for them; that is how grateful I am.

With that Friend I get to share what is good, and together turn our hearts toward the Name.

I serve my Beloved every single day, and in that service I have found peace.

And I give my whole self to the True Guru, who first opened my eyes to all of this.

Be endlessly grateful for whoever points you toward what is true — and walk it together.
The deeper layer

Be grateful for the Friend who shows you the path, and walk it together.

A tender Pauri of longing and gratitude. Har sajan mayl — “unite me with the Friend” — pictures the Guru as the True Friend who shows the path (panth dasaa-ee). The repeated bal jaa-ee / balihaaree (“I am a sacrifice to”) is wholehearted gratitude, giving your whole self. Gun saajhee adds a shared note — goodness is done together with the friend, never hoarded. The Vaar sings of the Sangat, the fellowship of seekers, more and more in its later Paurees.

A Question to Sit With

Who has pointed you toward something good and true? Have you ever thanked them for it?
