When you know the One and rest your attention on that single true Word, the deepest part of you stays whole and steady.
Here is the funny thing: all the treasures and powers people spend their lives chasing come trailing along behind the person who keeps the One in their heart and never chases them at all.
Without the Guru, the Naam is not found; think about that and let it sink in.
Nanak says: when good fortune brings you to the Guru, you find a peace that lasts through every age.
The treasures follow the one who stops chasing them. The nav nidhee, athaarah sidhee — the nine treasures and eighteen supernatural powers of the Siddhas — are exactly what yogis strive for, yet they pichhai lagee-aa fireh, run along behind the one who simply keeps the One in the heart. Chase powers and they flee; forget them for love and they follow. Pauri 58 returns to the same theme. Bin satgur naa-o na paa-ee-ai — without the Guru, the Naam is not found. The way opens through a relationship.
Why do you think some good things come more easily when you stop desperately chasing them?
