In plain words

Be kind to me, One, so that my words can carry the beautiful teaching.

Let me hold the Name close, sing it out loud, and gather the only profit worth having.

I would give anything for the people who keep the One in their hearts day and night.

Let my eyes rest on those who love and adore the true teacher.

And I am endlessly grateful to my guide, who introduced me to the One — my dearest companion, my very best friend.

The greatest gift a guide can give you is to introduce you to your truest friend.
The deeper layer

The twenty-fourth Pauree glows with gratitude. The single most striking word is at the end: the divine is har sajan mera saini — "my friend, my very best friend." The Guru is celebrated not as a distant authority but as the one who introduced the singer to that friend. This is Guru Ram Das's characteristic warmth — the whole spiritual life pictured as being brought into the presence of someone you love. The repeated ha-u kurbainee / vaari-aa ("I am a sacrifice") is read as wholehearted gratitude, not self-erasure.

A Question to Sit With

Has anyone ever introduced you to a friend, a book, or an activity that became really important to you? How do you feel about that person now?
