My carpenter is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O sister, I cannot hand this carpenter over to you, He is not mine to lend.

Look closely: my carpenter is spread through everything, everywhere at once. He is the very support of my breath, the ground my whole life rests on.

The One who makes real joy is not for hire, and is already everywhere.
The deeper layer

Namdev's carpenter cannot be lent to anyone, because the carpenter is already everywhere.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the still center of the shabad. Ree baa-ee baydhee dayn na jaa-ee — dear sister, I cannot give you this carpenter.

Why not? Daykh baydhee rahi-o samaa-ee — look, my carpenter fills everything. The neighbor wanted a worker she could hire. Namdev's builder is the One.

Hamaarai baydhee paraan adhaaraa — my carpenter holds up my very breath. Think of the air. You cannot lend someone the air, or keep it in your pocket. It is already all around them. The One is like that. You cannot buy the One or keep the One for yourself, because the One already lives in everyone.

A Question to Sit With

What is something wonderful that you cannot buy, no matter how much money you have?
