My Love Only Keeps on Growing

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਭਗਤਿ ਇਕ ਬਾਢੀ ਅਬ ਇਹ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
kahi ravidaas bhagat ik baadhee ab ih kaa si-o kahee-ai.
Says Ravi Daas, my devotion to the One Lord is increasing; now, who can I tell this to?
ਜਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਸੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਸਹੀਐ ॥੪॥੨॥
jaa kaaran ham tum aaraaDhay so dukh ajhoo sahee-ai. ||4||2||
That which brought me to worship and adore You - I am still suffering that pain. ||4||2||

In plain words

Says Ravidas, my love for the One keeps growing and growing, and there is hardly anyone I can even tell.

The very longing that first turned me toward You is still with me, a sweet ache that keeps calling me home.

The more you love, the more you long, and that longing is a gift.
The deeper layer

The closer Ravidas grows to the One, the deeper his longing becomes.

Kahi ravidaas bhagat ik baadhee — "says Ravidas, my love for the One keeps growing." Ab ih kaa si-o kahee-ai — "now who can I even tell?"

Jaa kaaran ham tum aaraaDhay — the very thing that first turned me toward You. So dukh ajhoo sahee-ai — I still feel that ache. The dukh, or pain, here is not a sadness that crushes. It is viraha, the sweet ache of missing someone you love.

Think of a phone call with a grandparent who lives far away. The longer you talk, the more you miss them, and the more you want to visit. The missing is part of the love. For Ravidas, growing love and growing longing move together. Both are signs of a heart that is fully alive.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a kind of missing someone that actually feels good, because it means you love them?
