Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why let your tongue stay silent of the Name of the Beloved, Har, Har, Har?

Let the endless other chatter settle, and let this one sweet remembrance rise up instead.

Giving the Name a place on your tongue is a gift you offer yourself.
The deeper layer

The pause line asks a warm question: why not let your tongue sing the Name?

This is the rahaa-o line, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Har har har na jaapeh rasnaa — "you do not repeat the Name, Har, Har, Har, with your tongue." Har is a name for the One. Rasnaa means tongue.

It is an invitation, never a scolding. Avar sabh ti-aag bachan rachnaa — let all the other chatter go. Remembering the One, called simran, is a joy to take up. Think of a song you love so much that you hum it without noticing. Ravidas hopes the Name can become that song. When it is on your tongue, the sweetness you feel inside finds a voice.

A Question to Sit With

What is a good word or thought you would like to keep close, ready on your lips?
