The soul is like a bird perched upon a tree. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O friend, in a life this brief, what is truly mine and what is truly yours?

The soul is like a bird that rests a while in a tree, and then, when it is time, lifts into the open sky.

Holding life lightly makes room for peace instead of clinging.
The deeper layer

The Rahao gently loosens our grip on ownership. The tarvar pankh basayraa (bird resting in a tree) is a serene image of the soul's stay in the body, temporary, and therefore held lightly. Nothing frightening here, only the freeing question: what did we ever really own?

A Question to Sit With

What is something you treat as yours that you are really just borrowing for a while?
