When a heart never sits with good company, it never tastes that natural, settled sweetness — not even a drop of it on the tongue.
It calls the mind, the body, the money "all mine," and never learns there is a bigger home it belongs to.
Walking with eyes shut against the light, everything stays dark, and it can't find its own true home. Wandering like that, a person keeps meeting the results of their own choices — round and round.
A heart that shuts its eyes to the light stays in the dark, and keeps meeting the results of its own choices.
This verse describes the closed heart. SaaDh sabhaa meh sahj na chaakhi-aa — it never tasted sahj, natural settled peace, in saaDh sabhaa, the company of good people. So there is not a drop of sweetness on the tongue.
Man tan Dhan apunaa kar jaani-aa — it calls the mind, the body and the money "all mine." It never learns there is a bigger home it belongs to.
The main picture is akhee meet chali-aa anDhi-aaraa — walking in the dark with eyes shut. Think of stumbling around your room at night with your eyes squeezed closed, bumping into things, while the light switch is right beside you. The darkness is self-made. It is not a punishment sent from outside.
The verse ends by saying such a person finds no place of rest: apunaa kee-aa kamaa-ee — they receive the results of their own actions. Choices have results, and a closed heart keeps meeting its own.
When was a time that opening up to good company or good advice changed how you saw things?
