Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O my mind, sing the Name and let praise fill you — through grace you touch the One: sweet, boundless, deeper than any deep.
The Beloved sees and hears it all. It speaks through every mouth.
Sometimes it lets us wander into wild, confusing places — and it's the very same One who then shows us the way home, carefree through it all.
Guru Ram Das says the same One who lets us wander also shows us the way home.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Jap man har har naam salaah: O mind, repeat and praise the Name. Gur kirpaa tay paa-ee-ai: by the Guru's grace we reach the Beloved. The One is amrit, sweet nectar; agam, beyond reach; and athaah, deeper than any deep.
Aapay sun sabh vaykh-daa: the One hears and sees everything, and speaks through every mouth.
Then comes a bold line. Aapay ujharh paa-idaa: the One leads us into the ujharh, the wild and confusing places. Aap vikhaalay raahu: and the One shows us the raahu, the way. Even when we are lost, we are still inside the One.
Think of a GPS. When you take a wrong turn, it doesn't scold you. It quietly says "rerouting" and points you home.
Aapay vayparvaahu: the One is carefree, calm and unworried. It is the same peace Raag Sorath keeps singing about.
When you were lost or confused, what turned out to be quietly guiding you the whole time?
