The One Delights in Every Heart, Woman and Man Alike

The Beloved Himself is deep and profound and unfathomable; there is no other as great as He.
sabh ghat aapay bhogvai pi-aaraa vich naaree purakh sabh so-ay.
The Beloved Himself enjoys every heart; He is contained within every woman and man.
naanak gupat varatdaa pi-aaraa gurmukh pargat ho-ay. ||4||2||
O Nanak, the Beloved is pervading everywhere, but He is hidden; through the Guru, He is revealed. ||4||2||

In plain words

The Beloved is deep, deeper than anyone can measure. No one else is as great.

The Beloved lives in every heart and delights in each one. The One is inside every woman and every man.

Nanak says: the Beloved is everywhere, but hidden. Through the teaching, the Beloved comes into view.

The One lives and delights inside every heart — in every woman and every man alike.
The deeper layer

This one says the same One lives and delights in every heart, in every woman and every man alike.

Gahir gambheer means deep and unfathomable, too deep to measure. No one else is that great.

Then comes a key line: vich naaree purakh sabh so-ay, "the One is in every woman and every man." Naaree means woman and purakh means man. No heart holds more of the One, and no heart holds less. Think of the sun shining on a playground at recess. It does not shine brighter on the boys or on the girls. It shines on everyone.

Last, gupat and pargat: hidden and revealed. The One is hidden everywhere in plain sight. It becomes pargat, clear to see, the moment the teaching opens our eyes. That is the whole aim: to see the One everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

How would you treat people differently if you saw the same One living inside each of them?
