Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
What is real is forever clean, and those who live from it grow clean too.
When grace turns its gaze toward someone, they receive it — it was there all along.
Among great crowds, only here and there does someone truly live this way.
Soaked in the True Name, hearing it, mind and body come bright and clear.
What is real is always clean, and staying close to it makes you clean too.
Sach sadaa hai nirmalaa — Truth is forever pure. Nirmal means spotless, clear. And being clean spreads. Those who live close to Truth become nirmal too. Think of standing near a sweet-smelling flower. Soon your hands smell sweet as well.
Nadar karay jis aapnee — the One gives a glance of grace, a loving look, of its own free will. The person receives it. They do not make it themselves.
Kot madhay jan paa-ee-ai virlaa — among millions, only a rare one lives this way. That is not because the door is shut. It is because the mind wanders so easily away from what is simplest and closest.
Naanak rataa sach naam — Nanak is soaked in the True Name. Hearing it, mind and body come bright and clear.
What helps you feel clear and settled after a noisy, tangled day?
