Love Can't Be Bought, It Comes When the Heart Walks Open

One who meets with the Guru, the Giver of pleasure and pain, says Nanak, is absorbed in the Lord's Praise. ||4||7||

In plain words

You can't force love or buy it by turning away — the One's love comes when you walk with the true teaching, heart open.

Meet the teacher — the one who holds both our joys and our sorrows — and, Nanak says, your whole self dissolves into praise.

Love can't be forced or bought — it arrives when your heart walks openly with the teaching.
The deeper layer

This one says love for the One can't be forced or bought. It comes through the Teacher, to an open heart.

Saakat paraym na paa-ee-ai — someone turned away doesn't find this love. Har paa-ee-ai satgur bhaa-ay — the One is found through the true Guru, with love. Not by being clever. Not by running from the world. Just an open heart meeting the teaching. Think about a real friend. You can't buy one. Friendship grows when you keep showing up with an open heart.

Then comes a striking phrase: sukh dukh daataa, the Giver of both happy and hard times. Both come from the same caring source, and both can help us grow. That never means looking for pain, or blaming someone who is hurting.

Meeting that Giver, says Guru Nanak, the self melts into sifat, praise.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that can only come to you when you stop grabbing for it?
