In plain words

He didn’t add up all the times I got it wrong — that is simply His forgiving way.

He reached out His hand, kept me safe, made me His own, and now I live in His love, forever and ever.

You are not the sum of your mistakes.
The deeper layer

The One doesn't keep a list of our mistakes; forgiving is simply the One's way.

Hamree ganat na ganee-aa kaa-ee — "He did not count up my accounts at all." He kept no tally of the times I slipped. Apnaa birad pachhaan — this is the One's birad, the faithful nature the One always has. Grace is not a passing mood. It is who the One is.

Haath day-ay raakhay kar apunay — He gave me His hand, kept me safe and made me His own. That reaching hand shows up again and again in these shabads. Think of learning to ride a bike. You wobble and fall, but a parent is right there, holding the seat. Nobody is counting your falls. Then comes the joy: sadaa sadaa rang maan — forever and ever, I enjoy that love.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to be forgiven instead of counted against?
