Take Shelter, and the Hard Inner Work Becomes Possible

So listen to the Teachings imparted by the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny.

Nanak proclaims: hold tight to the Protection and the Sanctuary of God. ||3||3||

In plain words

So listen to the teaching's counsel, friends.

Nanak says: hold tight to the shelter and protection of the One.

After the sober diagnosis, the way forward is simple: take shelter, hold tight — the hard inner work becomes possible when you're held.
The deeper layer

The close turns from the sober diagnosis to the remedy, and it is simple and hopeful: "listen to the Teachings... hold tight to the Protection and the Sanctuary of God." After naming the ruin, the Ninth Master does not leave the listener in despair; he points to the open shelter. The two undone tasks (P2) become doable inside the sanctuary — held by the One, a person can finally govern the self and drop the ego. The wake-up ends in refuge.

A Question to Sit With

What hard inner work might become possible if you first let yourself be 'held' rather than going it alone?
