Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the river of life, the Giver of all, so endlessly rich.

You alone give and You alone take away; there is no other at all.

All of life's giving and taking comes from one hand — there's no second power, no rival source, arranging your troubles.
The deeper layer

This one calls the One daree-aa-o, a river. It is the river of life that everything drinks from.

Dihand — the Giver. Deh layhi ayk — You alone give and You alone take away. Digar ko nahee — there is no other at all. Everything we gain and everything we lose comes from one hand.

That is very steadying. There is no second power plotting our troubles, and no rival boss. Think of a family with one loving parent who makes all the rules. Even the hard rules come from the same person who loves you.

Whatever comes, comes from the one river of life we are all swimming in.

A Question to Sit With

Does it steady you to think that whatever comes, comes from one source, not a tug-of-war between powers?
