Devotion Can Be as Intimate as a Warm Hello

ਹਲੇ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਹਲੇ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਖੁਸਿਖਬਰੀ ॥

Hello, my friend, hello my friend. Is there any good news?

I am a sacrifice, a devoted sacrifice, a dedicated and devoted sacrifice, to You.

Slavery to You is so sublime; Your Name is noble and exalted. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Hello, friend — hello! Is there good news to share?

I would give anything for You, again and again. To belong to You is the finest thing; Your Name is noble and high.

Devotion can be as intimate as a warm hello between friends — close enough to simply greet the One and ask what's new.
The deeper layer

This unusual, almost playful shabad opens like a warm greeting between friends — "Hello, my friend... Is there any good news?" Naam Dayv addresses the One with the easy affection of a close companion, not the formality of a distant subject. And the "good news" he seeks is the Beloved itself. The whole shabad will carry this intimate, conversational tone — devotion as friendship so close it can simply say hello and ask what's new.

A Question to Sit With

What would it be like to relate to the deepest good as a close friend you can simply greet?
