Love Can Ask the Boundless One 'Where Are You Going?'

Where did you come from? Where have You been? And where are You going?

Tell me the truth, in the holy city of Dwaarikaa. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Where did You come from? Where have You been? And where are You going?

Tell me the truth, here in the holy city.

Love can speak to the boundless One as intimately as to a traveling friend — even asking the unanswerable, 'where are you going?'
The deeper layer

The dialogue continues with a string of intimate questions — "where did you come from... where are you going?" These are the questions you ask a returning friend, and Naam Dayv asks them of the One, whose comings and goings are, of course, unanswerable in ordinary terms (the One is beyond origin and destination). The playfulness carries a deep point: the One who is everywhere has no "came from" or "going to" — and yet love speaks to it as intimately as to a traveling friend.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to imagine speaking to the vast and boundless as easily as to a close friend?
