The Color of Love Rubs Off in Good Company

ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਚੋਲੇ ਰਤੜੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਤੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jin kay cholay rat-rhay pi-aaray kant tinaa kai paas.
Those whose shawls are so dyed, O Beloved, their Husband Lord is always with them.
ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੀ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੀ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
Dhoorh tinaa kee jay milai jee kaho naanak kee ardaas. ||3||
Bless me with the dust of those humble beings, O Dear Lord. Says Nanak, this is my prayer. ||3||

In plain words

Those whose cloth is dyed that way, my love — their Beloved is always with them.

Give me the dust of those humble ones, dear One; Nanak says, this is my prayer.

Keep company with those truly colored by love, and the color rubs off — the prayer is just to stand close enough.
The deeper layer

This one says: the color of love rubs off when you stay close to good people.

Jin kay cholay rat-rhay — those whose clothes are dyed deep with love. Their Beloved is always with them. The color and the closeness are the same thing. Once the soul is colored this way, it is never far from the One.

Nanak doesn't ask to be praised. He asks to stand near such people. Dhoorh tinaa kee — the dust of their feet. That means the humblest place close to them. Think of standing next to someone baking bread. You walk away smelling of it too.

Stay near the truly loving, and their color rubs off on you. Kaho naanak kee ardaas — Nanak says, this is my prayer.

A Question to Sit With

Who is 'dyed' in something good that you'd like to catch by being near them?
