Nanak says: if the soul-bride becomes pleasing to her Beloved, He takes her to His heart.
This ending gives everything back to the One.
Aapay saajay aapay rangay — the One makes us, and the One colors us. Aapay nadar karay-i — the One looks on us with kindness. That kind look is called grace. From start to finish, the change is a gift. Even becoming dear to the Beloved is something the One works in us.
This keeps the lovely picture from turning into a to-do list. You don't earn the new color like points in a game. Think of a birthday present. You didn't pay for it. Someone who loves you chose it and gave it.
The One made the cloth, filled the vat, and looked on you with love. Being close to the One is grace's gift, not a wage you work for.
