Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Keep the Name close, over and over, for as long as you live.
Kindness poured down, and the whole place — my whole world — was blessed.
Gratitude and remembering are the same act — you stay inside a blessing by keeping it in mind.
This is a shabad of thanksgiving — the mood of someone for whom something has gone right and who knows it was gift, not achievement. "He has blessed the town" (vasee nagaree) can be read as the community, or as the 'town' of the body-and-mind — the whole inner settlement flourishing under grace. The instruction and the gratitude are one: keep remembering, because remembering is how you stay inside the blessing you've been given.
A Question to Sit With
When something good happens, what helps you actually stay grateful instead of quickly forgetting?
