The Deepest Peace Is Given to the Simple, Not the Clever

He is the Giver of perfect peace to the innocent-minded people; O Nanak, the Lord, Har, Har, is my support. ||2||8||13||

In plain words

By the kindness of the wise, the One became my healer — the doer behind everything, the cause of all causes.

The One gives deep peace to simple, open hearts. That's what holds me up.

The deepest peace is given not to the clever, but to the simple and open-hearted.
The deeper layer

The shabad closes by naming the One "the Cause of causes" (karan kaaran) — the source behind every source. But the tender phrase is "the Giver of perfect peace to the innocent-minded people" (bholay bhaa-ay, the simple-hearted). Peace here isn't a prize for the clever or the accomplished; it's given to the open — those humble and trusting enough to receive it. It's a quietly egalitarian ending: the deepest healing goes not to the sophisticated but to the sincere.

A Question to Sit With

Why might a simple, trusting heart receive peace more easily than a clever, guarded one?
