You keep gathering the kind of things that only leave you hungrier and thirstier for more.
Meanwhile the one supply that would actually fill you — the sweet Name — you never stock up on.
This verse names the trap of craving: gathering things that "bring only hunger and thirst," i.e., that increase wanting rather than satisfying it. Every acquisition promises fullness and delivers a fresh appetite. Set against it is the "Ambrosial Naam" (amrit naam), the one 'supply' that actually satisfies. The contrast is between two economies: one that feeds the hunger and one that ends it. Guru Arjan simply asks which storehouse you're filling.
Can you think of something that made you want *more* the more you had? What actually leaves you satisfied?
