The Way Out of the Cycles Is Genuine Listening

sun man seekh saaDhoo jan saglo thaaray saglay paraachhat miti-o ray.
Listen, O mind, to the Teachings of the Holy Saints, and all your sins shall be totally washed away.

One who is destined to receive from the Lord, O servant Nanak, shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again. ||2||2||19||

In plain words

So listen, mind: take in the words of the wise, and the whole weight of your mistakes can be washed clean.

The heart that's meant to receive from the One, Nanak says, doesn't have to keep repeating the same painful cycles.

The way out of the same old cycles is genuine listening — receptive attention that actually changes you.
The deeper layer

This one shows the way out after the honest look inward. The way out is listening.

Sun man seekh saadhoo jan — listen, mind, to the teaching of the wise. Saglay paraachhat miti-o ray — and all your wrongs are washed away. The cure is real listening: open, careful attention that changes you. Japji Sahib praises this same power of listening. It's like finally hearing a coach's advice instead of just nodding — suddenly your game changes.

Garbhaas na pa-orhi-o ray — he isn't sent into the womb again. This is the tradition's picture for breaking out of cycles that repeat. Read gently, it means a heart can stop looping through the same forgetting and the same hurts, and finally rest.

First an honest look, then a washing, then being set free. That is the usual path of the shabads in Todee.

A Question to Sit With

What's the difference between hearing good advice and really *listening* to it? When has listening changed you?
