Learned scholars can recite whole libraries of sacred verses,
but simple Naam Dayv knows just one thing — the One itself.
Naam Dayv sets book-learning against direct knowing and cheerfully picks the second. The pandits recite the Vedas — mountains of memorized scripture — while "foolish Naam Dayv knows only the Lord." The word "foolish" is worn proudly here: he's the unlettered low-caste man who never had access to the scholars' training, and he's saying that the one thing he does have — direct love of the One — outweighs all their recitation. It's a quiet revolution: closeness to the One is not gated behind education, caste, or scholarship. The 'fool' who loves is ahead of the expert who only recites.
What's the difference between memorizing lots of facts about something and truly knowing it? Which matters more?
