You are my True Lord and Master, O Infinite King.
You are my Dear Beloved, so dear to my life and consciousness.
You bring peace to my soul; You are known to the Gurmukh. All are blessed by Your Love.
The mortal does only those deeds which You ordain, Lord.
One who is blessed by Your Grace, O Lord of the Universe, conquers his mind in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
Says Nanak, my soul is a sacrifice to You; You gave me my soul and body. ||3||
# Raag Tukhaari, Shabad 11 — You Gave Me Both Soul and Body
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are my true Keeper, a King without limit, richer than counting.
You are my Beloved, closer to me than my own breath and thoughts.
You bring my heart peace; those who walk with the Guru come to know You, and every shade of love blossoms in them.
Whatever I do best flows out of moving in step with You.
Anyone You bless learns, in good company, to settle their own restless mind.
You gave me my soul and my body. My whole heart is Yours.
Saachaa saahib saahu piles up words for the One as true Master and boundless wealth. The line "the mortal does only those deeds which You ordain" is rendered as acting "in step with You" — this is Hukam, the flow of existence, where your best doing is not forced but flows from alignment. Gurmukh jaataa: the One is known by the Gurmukh, the person turned toward the teaching, and then "every shade of love" (sagal rang) blossoms. "Conquering the mind" in the Saadh Sangat (good company) is rendered gently as learning to settle a restless mind. The stanza ends in gratitude: soul and body both are gifts.
When do you feel most "in step", like things are flowing instead of forced?
