Raag Tukhaari

This Chhant lays a whole life across the four pahar (watches) of a night. The first watch (P0) is life’s beginning: a treasure worth guarding lies within, and small fears and cravings are the “thieves” that slip in when awareness sleeps — so the stanza ends not in warning but in a prayer for wakefulness. The second watch (P1) calls us to tend the “field” of our days awake, loving the One, until the very fear of endings walks off. The third watch (P2) is the deepest sleep — a sleepy heart, not sleepy eyes — where good things gripped too tightly become a tangle, loosened again by holding the Name. The fourth watch (P3) brings the first light of dawn: for the ones who stayed aware, the night was peaceful, and though bodies age, the One held in the heart stays bright. The closing stanza (P4) is the season’s completion that comes to everyone, and it ends on homecoming: those joined to the Word are gathered home like old friends — this is the way existence is made.
