Tukhaari, Fourth Mehl:
You are the Life of the World, the Lord of the Universe, our Lord and Master, the Creator of all the Universe.
They alone meditate on You, O my Lord, who have such destiny recorded on their foreheads.
Those who are so pre-destined by their Lord and Master, worship and adore the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
All sins are erased in an instant, for those who meditate on the Lord, through the Guru's Teachings.
Blessed, blessed are those humble beings who meditate on the Lord's Name. Seeing them, I am uplifted.
You are the Life of the World, the Lord of the Universe, our Lord and Master, the Creator of all the Universe. ||1||
# Raag Tukhaari, Shabad 9 — You Are the Life of the Whole World
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are the life inside everything alive, the One behind the whole world, the Maker of it all.
The ones who turn to You are the ones whose hearts were tuned toward You from the very start.
When love is written deep in someone, they hold Your Name close and treasure it.
Whatever weighed them down falls away in a moment when they remember You through the Guru's Word.
Lucky, truly lucky, are the people who keep Your Name. Just being near them, I feel I belong.
You are the life inside everything alive, the Maker of it all.
Jagjeevan, jagdees: the "Life of the World" and "Lord of the Universe." The lines about destiny "recorded on the forehead" (dhur lekh maath) are rendered as hearts "tuned toward You from the start" and love "written deep" — kept as grace rather than cold fate, so a child hears belonging, not a locked door. Sanaath literally means having a master, being no longer orphaned; here, "just being near them, I feel I belong." The stanza wraps in its own opening line, Chhant-style.
Who are the people who, just by being around them, make you feel more at home in yourself?
