One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
gur mil laDhaa jee raam pi-aaraa raam.
Meeting with the Guru, I have found my Beloved Lord God.
ih tan man dit-rhaa vaaro vaaraa raam.
I have made this body and mind a sacrifice, a sacrificial offering to my Lord.
tan man ditaa bhavjal jitaa chookee kaaNn jamaanee.
Dedicating my body and mind, I have crossed over the terrifying world-ocean, and shaken off the fear of death.
asthir thee-aa amrit pee-aa rahi-aa aavan jaanee.
Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, I have become immortal; my comings and goings have ceased.
so ghar laDhaa sahj samDhaa har kaa naam aDhaaraa.
I have found that home, of celestial Samaadhi; the Name of the Lord is my only Support.
kaho naanak sukh maanay ralee-aaN gur pooray kaN-u namaskaaraa. ||1||
Says Nanak, I enjoy peace and pleasure; I bow in reverence to the Perfect Guru. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
Meeting real wisdom, I found the One I love.
I gave my whole heart to it and crossed safely over the roughest waters, and the fear of endings fell away.
I found a home of deep calm, with the good as my only support.
When you find what you truly love, a deep calm settles in and old fears loosen their hold.
The deeper layer
Guru Arjan's Chhant opens in fulfilled joy: "meeting the Guru, I have found my Beloved." Giving "body and mind" in devotion, one "crosses the world-ocean and shakes off the fear of death," finding "the home of celestial Samaadhi." The fear of endings, so heavy in a raag of longing, simply falls away. For a child: when you find what you truly love, a deep calm settles in and old fears loosen their hold.
A Question to Sit With
What settles you into a deep calm when you find it?
